DIY Party Blowers
We don’t typically post many do it yourself projects here on Nantucket Weddings Unveiled. But when this little gem came across my computer screen I couldn’t help but share the cuteness!
Great for a fun end of the evening send off, bachelorette party, brunch or rehearsal dinner. Find custom papers to match your color scheme or a pattern to add in a design element. Oh I can see it now!
Have fun….

Bouquets Fit For the Latest Color Trends in Bridesmaid Dresses
We’re back today with some bouquets that work well with the top color choices in bridesmaid’s dresses.
First up – the navy dress. Navy is a great ‘neutral’ color and allows for a variety of color choices in blooms. This first bouquet has a lot of texture and green and white look crisp against a navy background. Notice how the wrap on the bouquet is done in twine with shell accents. Perfect for a Nantucket wedding.
For a more feminine look, a sweet all white bouquet with blue accents works perfectly.
Next up, the metallic colors. These colors are prominent everywhere in fashion and home decor, and are not going anywhere anytime soon. In this bouquet, shades of white blooms in varying textures don’t compete with the bold color and act more as an accent.
And for our third dress selection of lavender, a monochromatic bouquet with with white, lavender and purple fits the bill.
For a bolder contrast, mixing lavender with magenta and aubergine pop against a lavender background.
Survey Says….
We asked future Nantucket brides what color(s) they were choosing for bridesmaids dresses. There were a rainbow of responses.
In first place, Navy
Second place – anything Metallic
A close third – shades of Lavender
Check back later this week to see bouquets that work well for these selections.

More New York Bridal Fashion Week
There are so many amazing runway shows taking place in New York. We all can’t be there to soak in the fabulous fashion so we thought we would share some videos. These designers are seen on a regular basis on Nantucket and might just have what you are looking for.
Family Photos
There has been a trend lately with brides wanting to incorporate family photos from weddings past. We are always looking for unique ways to showcase them. There’s nothing wrong with putting all the photos in matching frames and setting them out on a tabletop – BUT, there are ways to get creative with this and make it a conversation piece during cocktail hour.
One way to do this is to take all your photos, reprint them to a smaller size, and hang them from branches with twine or other colored yarn. A great look for a fall wedding.
Another way to do this is to take all your photos, recreate them to the same size and do them all in black and white for continuity. It’s about making the display cohesive and not busy. After all, you want to showcase the family members who have helped you get to where you are on your wedding day.
In the photo below, Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral created a ‘photo wall’ for her bride and accented the black and white photos with the bride’s wedding colors. Setting this up in one corner of the cocktail room allowed for guests to ‘drive’ by as they sipped their cocktail and take a trip down memory lane. Look closely at some of these photos – the bouquets and veils are quite something!
A New Take on Luminaries
At most weddings, you see the typical lit pathway at the end of the evening with white luminary bags. They look lovely, and they also serve a purpose. It gets dark out here (really dark) in Nantucket this time of year. We found a cute twist to the regular paper luminaries. With these little gems, you can light your pathway with a sailboat silhouette as your guests ’sail’ off in to the night. Avaliable at Whispering Pines.
Fall Blooms
Fall brides have so much to choose from when it comes to color palette and blooms for their bouquets and centerpieces. Everything is available from seed pods, oak leaves, miniature gourds/pumpkins/corn, bittersweet vines and the oh-so-showy dahlias in every color imaginable (think a rusty orange and a deep burgundy). Mixing up textures can bring a lot of ‘wow’ to the table that will let your guests feast on eye candy all evening long.
At Soiree Floral, some of their favorites this fall have been reclaimed wood, birch bark containers, rosehips, exotic striped orchids, and fiddlehead ferns. Below is a sophisticated tablescape by Soiree Floral where they added mini crabapples to the base of every design. Blue silk linens with burlap runners, twig chargers, and gilded chargers graced the table. All rentals by Placesetters.
