Hair Flowers
There seems to be a trend these days with brides, veils, and hair flowers. Many brides want that beautiful, cathedral length train for the ceremony. They also want to be able to dance the night away at the reception. Brides have some amazing choices for hair flowers these days (both real and faux) to replace that veil once the ‘I Do’s’ are done. We found a couple of amazing options over on Etsy:

Tip from a Real Bride
We had a bride (Sarah) write in with a suggestion to all brides – No matter what you normally wear on a daily basis for mascara, you MUST wear waterproof mascara on your big day. Sara said that during her rehearsal the waterworks started and she didn’t have waterproof mascara on – and that made for some ’scary’ photos. Her favorites:
Thanks for sharing your tip Sarah!

A Nantucket Wedding: The Galley
Meghan and Darryl were married on a beautiful sunshine filled day on Nantucket. The elements of their wedding stood out to us from the very start and we couldn’t resist showcasing their entire wedding.
Preparations took place at the new White Elephant residence. Meghan’s hair was done on site by Darya Salon and make-up by Lizzie from Beauty By The Sea.
Transportation to St. Mary’s church was provided by Cranberry Transportation for the bridal party and the bride and her parents arrived in the Highland Drivers 1964 Princess.
Flowers and Decor were done by Dawn Kelly and her team at Soiree Floral.

Now onto the photos….. we are only getting started so stay tuned for many more great details & behind the scenes planning from this Nantucket Wedding!
Cheers erupt from the bridal party as Meghan shows off her finished look.
These three nearly stole the show as they walked down the isle together.
A special moment for every wedding, when they couple sees one another for the first time.
So happy!! As they drive away as husband and wife.
Finishing Touches For Bridal Fashion
Nothing transforms a bride for her day quite like a bridal veil. There are numerous options when it comes to this final bridal touch. Bird cage veils are all the rage this year. Simple, elegant and easy to manage they are gracing many a brides walk down the isle.
Have you decided on what you will wear down the isle for your island wedding? Like Vera Wang herself said “Refer to the nature of the celebration, whether it is the time of day, the specific details about the location, or the religious nature, when deciding upon a veil. Every aspect of the bride’s appearance, from her physical attributes and hairstyle, to the gown’s shape, style and train length must be kept in consideration.”
We selected a few styles that we think could help you narrow down the options.
Kristen by Sara Gabriel. A classic veil with alencon lace trim.
Astyn by Sara Gabriel. A french net, face blusher with swarovski rhinestones and ostrich feathers details.
Miss Nina Lee by Oh My Deer Handmades. Ribbon, tulle and feathers on two spring clips.
Custom Illusion birdcage bavolet with side comb. Created by Unveiled Bridal Designs.
Wedding Day Hair Tips
Darya Afshari of Darya’s Hair Salon is back this week with some essential hair tips for your wedding day.
Outdoor ceremonies and tented receptions are a big draw for many Nantucket brides. Darya advises that you don’t wear your hair down for an outdoor ceremony unless you have had a keratin straightening. If you wear your tresses down normally, she suggests hiring your stylist to be on site for your entire event. That way you don’t run the risk of frizzed hair in your wedding photos.
The biggest thing you can do to ensure you are happy with your overall look on your wedding day is to schedule a hair trial prior to your wedding. The shampoo you use on your wedding day is important (depending on your hair type) and that is why Darya prefers that her clients come in to the salon and allow her professional staff to take care of your needs there.
Our final question to Darya was what makes a bride memorable – and she said hands down fresh flowers in the hair!
Thanks for your expertise Darya!

Wedding Day Makeup Tips
Every bride wants to look her best on the big day. There are some wonderful hair and makeup experts on island. Today, Darya Afshari, owner of Darya Salon has a few key tips to help you look your best:
The single most important thing for a bride to remember is to look as close to how the groom sees her on a daily basis. Don’t wear red lipstick and smoky eyes if that is not your normal look.
To bring out your natural beauty, consider eyelash extensions. They are great because they look amazing in photos and they are tear proof. Even better, they’ll last through your honeymoon.
Spray tanning is great when you are crunched for time (not to mention it is better for you). You should have the applications done at least twice and definitely three to four days prior to your wedding.
Darya also suggests that dewy, natural makeup is great for an outdoor wedding and beautiful in photos. One key tip is to always bring your own waterproof mascara and favorite lipstick to your makeup artist on your wedding day.
All of the above suggestions can be done at Darya Salon which is located at 34 Center Street. The salon’s number is 508-228-0550.
Thanks for the great tips Darya. Be sure to check back next week when Darya offers suggestions on great hair for your wedding day.
