Honeymoon Destinations – Part I
Kristin O’Reilly of Destination Affairs is our guest blogger today and she is giving her take on popular honeymoon getaways.
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be? Your honeymoon is your chance to go anywhere you’ve always wanted – and the one time you don’t have to feel bad about taking time off from work!
The Caribbean is perhaps the most booked honeymoon destination for people living on the east coast. For those who can only get away for a week, you can maximize your time here……no jetlag and plenty of choices in airfare schedules.
The British Virgin Islands are one of my favorites. A cluster of mountainess islands that conceal some of the most beautiful beaches in the world – each offering their own personalities. You’ve got Virgin Gorda, home of the legendary “Baths caves” and home to Little Dix Bay. Peter Island Resort offering you true seclusion on its own island. St.John, offering Trunk Bay, one of the most photographed islands in the Caribbean and the biggest nature preserve (lots of scenic hiking!). Seclusion is key, but there are many resources to transport you between islands for a change of scenery.
Can’t decide on an island? Check out The Moorings Yacht Charters. They offer sailing adventures for every type. Take a brief training course and self-charter your own sailboat through the Islands. Or custom build your own itinerary and they provide a skipper. What’s more, they can offer you personal chefs to prepare your catch of the day caught right off your boat! They also operate in other destinations such as The Meditterean, South Pacific, and The Seychelles!!!!
Other Caribbean favorites of mine… Rent a villa in St.Barths and experience boutique shopping and world class restaurants. If you are “foodies” who like to shop, this island’s for you. Also got a palette for more than sand and surf? Head over to Anguilla. Resorts such as CuisinArt and Cap Juluca offer first class service and fresh ingredients in all their cooking with a great international wine list and all your typical water sports.
Check back next week when Kristin dishes about Europe.
Thanks for stopping by Kristin!
Tabletops – Part II
Today we continue with our series on tabletops, shot at the beautiful Galley Beach. Some Nantucket brides love the look and feel of a Nantucket wedding with the ‘traditional’ elements. Items like lightship baskets, basket weave patterns, seashells – you get the idea. Well, our savvy vendors took those elements and with a few simple tabletop changes, changed the overall look of the same table from yesterday.
Jen Shepherd of Placesetters, Inc chose rattan chargers with a napkin ring to match, water glasses in a heavy glass etched with shell motifs, and a white dinner plate with a basket weave design.
Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral chose a Nantucket Lightship basket brimming with beautiful spring blooms. The soft colors and fluffy blooms soften the tablescape and ties together the rattan and basketweave textures.
The finishing touches to the table include custom designed paper goods by Marty Kelly of Marty Kelly Papers. Adding touches of soft blue and shells to the escort cards completes the design.
Nantucket Named Carefree escape for Honeymoons
The new issue of New York Magazines Weddings is out and Nantucket made the list for ‘Carefree Escapes for Two – Honeymoon Destinations’. The article states:
‘Once the summer hordes decamp, Nantucket’s flat topography and dramatic coastline make for great cycling. Pack a picnic basket with lobster rolls and a good blanket, and pedal the three-mile path to Surfside Beach.’
Stay at: The White Elephant (from $275)
Get there: from NYC a 4.5 hr drive (depending on I-95 traffic) to Hyannis, and a two hour car ferry ride (from $260).
