Summer Sorbets Island Shoot, Take II
Today we have guest blogger Marty Kelly of Marty Kelly Papers giving us the 411 on how she came up with her designs.
When WellWed told me they would be shooting a tablescape on Nantucket in a sorbet color palette, I knew my designs would have to be super summery, fresh, and fun. For the menus and escort cards I chose beach umbrella and flip flop motifs, reminiscent of carefree moments in the summer sun. Knowing that sorbet was being served, I designed some colorful personalized word cloud cone wrappers. On each wrapper I printed the couple’s names and all sorts of loving sentiments and sweet nothings, like “joy, hope, smiles, forever, friendship, and family”. Summer loving at its best!

Summer Sorbets Island Photo Shoot
Last August, some of the islands finest vendors got together to showcase their areas of expertise on all things wedding. Wellwed’s editor-in-chief Krista Washburn chose colors as irresistibly vivid as this favorite refreshing summer treat.
Placesetters chose a whimsical paisley pattern for the linens, and a polka-dot chair cushion with paisley piping for a fun twist to the seating. Centerpieces (by Soiree Floral) in sorbet colors and vintage milk glass containers round out the table, with little birds perched in teacups.

Wellwed Features Unique Nantucket Events
Today we are showcasing more island vendors from the Spring/Summer issue of Wellwed Magazine. Nicole Wheldon, owner of Unique Nantucket - wedding & event planning gives the 411 on how she approaches an event. One tip she swears by when speaking with couples is to tell them to embrace their own personal style when planning their wedding.

Also, just a quick reminder the Cape & Islands Wedding Affair takes place this weekend at Ocean’s Edge Resort in Brewster, MA. Wendy from Nantucket Photobooth said she will be on site and taking photos of all the festivities. Be sure to stop by and say hello to her!

Nantucket Tents, Stunning Sail Cloth Tents
Morning Everyone! It’s Brea here, and I just couldn’t resist talking about one of my favorite wedding elements this morning.
So, I have a thing for tented weddings. You may have noticed this from my website or if you are a fan of my Facebook page that I have a slight thing for those evening tent shots. I photograph a lot of tented weddings and I must say I get excited for that special glow that comes along with a stunning tent. It’s like a world of it’s own under there!
When one of my favorite tent companies was looking for some new photos for their catalog I of course e-mailed a few right over. (lets just say I had a couple of shots to share) And then a few weeks later received a package in the mail with copies of their shiny new catalog. I was super excited to see several of my tent photos featured on the stunning pages of their latest creation. But beyond that was some stellar information for those planning a tented wedding. All the details from the various types of tents to possible floor plans are laid out on the pages. It just goes to show what a professional company this is and the best part…. these tents are available on island at Nantucket Tents! They really know how to create an amazing space for your special day.
If you are planning a tented Nantucket wedding visit their website and take a look at all they have to offer. And check out a few shots of their Sperry Tents brochure below.

Style Me Pretty Shoot- The Film
There are some great wedding blogs out there and we have our list of those to check on a daily basis, sometimes more! Style Me Pretty is one of those daily blogs not to be missed. It’s filled with inspiring content, impeccable style and topnotch photography. Often you will find us sharing content we find from SMP here on our blog. SO… you can imagine how ecstatic we were when we were asked to create a shoot for Style Me Pretty’s blog! We received an inspiration board from the readers of SMP and the team went into action. So this week we will share the final results from the shoot and talk about the design and all the amazing details that went into it. To start it off we thought a great film from the shoot was in order. Meg Simone is the talented New England videographer behind today’s post. She shared some thought on how she approached the shooting of the design.
“I captured the shoot with 100% natural light from the barn. I knew going into the shoot this would probably be one of the most elaborate table settings I’ve ever filmed so I wanted to try to make sure I captured the textures and layers of elements in the design, but not overwhelm the senses by making each shot so encompassing that you don’t fully see the beauty in each design element. I tried to use depth of field to bring out elements of each piece and then alternate those close up shots with wide angles so you could see how it related to the overall setting.”
There is so much more to come from this shoot so stay tuned this week! And a big welcome to Meg for joining us here at Nantucket Weddings Unveiled!!
Grace Ormonde Features Island Vendors
We’re back today with more eye candy from the ‘bible’ of the wedding world - Grace Ormonde Wedding Magazine. For this issue, the staff at Grace Ormonde picked the Fine Arts Museum in Boston for one of their tabletop shoots. Two of our island vendors, Soiree Floral and Placesetters participated. More on the details of the behind the scenes shoot from Dawn, Owner and Creative Director at Soiree Floral:
I had no idea what part of the museum we would be shooting our tabletop in (or what rooms would be available to us). Normally, when we do these types of things, I like to go over the top with lots and lots of beautiful romantic blooms. This shoot was a bit different in that I knew no matter where we were, the art in the museum needed to be center stage. So I designed a bold, almost masculine table where we did minimal blooms and brought some pattern and color in with the linen and tablesetting.
When we entered the museum and started walking around, we went in to the ‘Aisa Room’ and I immediately fell in love with ‘Mr Buddah’ and I really wanted that spot. Several other designers wanted in that room also, so we worked out a plan so we didn’t interfere with anyone else’ shots. A hard thing to do when there is only so much room in what appears to be a gigantic space.
There were so many layers to our table - four different chargers and plates (don’t you love that green striped plate!), a lucite napkin ring with an orchid on top, and some funky small sea urchin vases that added more dimension and masculinity to the center of the table. You can’t go wrong with white phalaenopsis orchids and the delicate yellow oncidium orchids (I always think they look like little butterflies hovering over a table). A unique approach that shows sometimes less really is more.
Nantucket Wedding’s in Print
Grace Ormonde Weddings Style New England just hit stands and we were thrilled to see some of our island vendors featured in print!
First up we have Jodi’s Cakes. One of our island favorites for sweet treats! You must remember her whale cake from this past summer! She created this pale blue cup cake tower with confectioned coral and a mini cake on top. Perfect for an island wedding and still whimsical enough for that playful bride.
This cake was created in 2009 for a summer wedding at The Galley. Photograph by Brea McDonald Photography. Congratulations to all of you for catching the eye of those at Grace Ormonde!
More to come on this from Soiree Floral or her featured table design that was also in this issue…stunning!!
Featured on Style Me Pretty!
We LOVE the Style Me Pretty blog! The content is stunning, it’s updated countless times during the day and it features some of our favorite wedding vendors! Yesterday they ran a feature on a photo shoot with three of our fantastic island vendors. The was part of a series called “Inspiration to Reality”. The blog readers create inspiration boards, a team of vendors then selects a board and translates the concept into a design for a mock wedding.
The vendor team consisted of Meagan from Maine Seasons Events, Dawn from Soiree Floral, Sara from Griffin-vites Stationery, Brea from Brea McDonald Photography and Meg from Meg Simone Videography.
We are so proud of the vendors involved in this shoot! Congratulations to all of you!
